Saipem Karimun yards to build offshore Iraq platform

SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – South Oil Company has awarded Saipem an EPIC contract for the Iraq Crude Oil Export Expansion Project – Phase 2.

This relates to expansion of the Basra oil terminal, off the Al Faw Peninsula in the Arabian Gulf, 550 km (340 mi) southeast of Baghdad.

Saipem will be responsible for engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of a Central Metering and Manifold Platform (CMMP), to be installed in a water depth of 28 m (92 ft), and associated facilities.

The company’s yard in Karimun, Indonesia will fabricate the topsides, and the jacket and piles will be fabricated at the Saipem Taqa Al-Rushid (STAR) yard in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

Offshore installations are scheduled for the second half of 2013.

Elsewhere Total E&P Nigeria has contracted Saipem for new offshore facilities for the Ofon field, 50 km (31 mi) from Nigeria’s southern coast.

Saipem will perform engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of the OFP2 jacket - comprising the 1,970-ton jacket structures and the 4,500 ton piles - and will transport and install the completed new OFQ living quarter platform.

The Saipem Rumuolumeni Yard in Port Harcourt, Nigeria will build the jacket. Offshore activities will be performed in phases during 2013, mainly by the Saipem 3000 vessel.

In the Norwegian and UK North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, Saipem has won various contracts to transport and install platforms and marine facilities, and decommission redundant offshore structures, mainly using the S7000 vessel.
